Into August

Mama Bear and Janey get out a lot more now - mostly because Janey finally decided to take to a schedule and has consolidated some naps - so they are longer now!! After story time at the library Tuesday Mama Bear and Janey often head to the beach for a little while before coming home for lunch.  Here is a pic of Janey at the beach:

Towards the middle of the month one of my favorite people came to visit - Guffey.  He came for a few days and then he took Papa Bear with him to Vegas for the weekend. 
Papa Bear took Guffey to his favorite Happy Hour location near by - it has a cool outside area:

On another day they rented a Duffy boat and showed Guffey the sites - I again stayed at home. . .But here is a pic I like of Janey on te boat:

ANd Janey loves playing with the puzzle Aunt Lori got her.  All she really does it put the pieces in her mouth (that is what she does with everythign these days).

WHen we were out on a walk the other morning we passed a yard sale.  Papa Bear went back later and got two toys for Janey.  She cant really do much with them for now, but we can store them in the garage until se is ready.

And of course Janey still loves the bath.  She can't wait to get in and play with green frog and ducky every night.  SHe got the green frog for finishing the library's baby summer reading program.

At the end of the month Miranda and Dwight came to visit.  Miranda had not really gotten to meet Janey yet - Janey's Apruil visit to Virginia was not so fun due to the teething.  So the night Mama Bear saw Miranda, Janey was already in bed.  And by the time Miranda had a chacne to see Janey at the baptism Janey was already in meltdown mode form the heat!!  SO it was nice that Miranda came out to visit - I got some quality time and Miranda got to really meet Janey!

Mama Bear and Papa Bear have been spending a lot of time at the pool lately.  It has been very hot (for out here:) ) So the pool has been a nice way to cool off.

Aunt Ginny comes tomorrow - I can;t wait!!  And then Mama Bear and Janey fly back to VA again on the 24th for some time with family!!

Rest of June and into July

Somewhere around the middle of June Janey began to sit on her own.  I figure this means it is only a matter of time until she starts crawling after me.  But until then, I am safe!

 Papa Bear had another Friday afternoon basketball game to play in, so Mama Bear and Janey went along.  Apparently Janey likes beer cans:

 

Mama Bear's friend recently turned 40 and decided to have her birthday party at a Pole Dancing Studio - apparently these are the new rage!  They spent two hours learning a lap dance and were exhausted at the end!

My friend Dan is driving cross country and stayed with us for a few days.  I do not think the sun made a single appearance while he was here.  But we still showed him around.  I even went on a ferry for the first time.  It took us from Balboa island to the penninsula.  Pretty fun.  Janey came, too:

WE went for our regular morning stroll on the 4th of July.  BY 6:15 am all the firepits on the beach were already claimed- we assume they planned to use them during the fireworks.

Later on the 4th they took Dan to the local zoo - nothing compared to his recent visit to the San Diego Zoo, but still pretty good for a local zoo.  Papa Bear "wore" Janey for the first time.

In mid-July Janey began her swim lessons.  The first day was great.  Unfortunately she did not like it the rest of the session.  WE think it is because the water is so cold and by 4:30 in the day it is not so warm outside.  SO Mama Bear is only going to take her to heated pools in the middle of the day for now:)

Baptism in WIlliamsburg

Mama and Papa decided to leave me in CA and travel back to VA for Janey's baptism. Mama Bear dropped her camera on the last trip and had not yet purchased one, so we do not have many pictures of the weekend.  WE are hoping some of those who came will share their pictures with us!!

Janey had recently begun sitting in a highchair.  Here she is showing off her new trick to Grandma and AUnt Becca at lunch.

First half of June

June was fairly quiet.  Mama Bear is beginning to have a weekly routine:

Mondays she meets some of her friends for coffee/diet Coke in the morning and then they go to story time at the library's main branch.

Tuesdays she goes to story time at a different branch of the library.  Sometimes some of her friends join her.

WEdnesdays Mama Bear and Janey meet other Mommies and walk by the beach.

THursdays Mama takes Janey to play group.

It may not sound like a lot, but right now a lot of the day is taken up with feeding Janey.  She breastfeeds and then an hour later she eats her solid food (except the mid-afternoon feed).  Add in the naps and there is not much day left. . . .

Janey began eating solid foods and is in love. As of July 15th, she has had rice, oats, bananas, pears, dried plums (aka prunes, but we think dried plums sounds better), apricots, mango, apples, avocado, blueberries, carrots, peas, sweet potato, squash.  She loves sweet potato and apples together as well as an avacado/banana combo.

Janey is still not a big fan of being on her tummy.  But if I sit in front of her she will do it for a bit longer than usual:) 

Janey went to her friend's second birthday party and wore this dress.  It was a train themed bday party - the family had rented out a little train depot and there was a little train that the kids could ride on - track and all!!

Papa Bear with Janey at Janey's  6 month check up.  Janey weighed 16 pounds and ranked in the 50th percentile for weight and head circumference.  SHe was 27 1/2 inches long which got her the 90th percentile again!!  We think she will soon be taller than her Aunt Becca!!

Janey was sitting for short periods by the middle of the month.  But we still put a pillow behind her.  Here she is playing with all her stuffed animals.

Rest of May

Mama Bear found out she can paint a little - she got a groupon for wine and canvas and went with a friend.  She said it was really fun - a guy who knew what he was doing led the group through the steps needed to paint a picture.  Her final product is below:

Mama and Papa Bears continue to have problems getting Janey to take a bottle.  THey were successful on this night, when she took matters into her own hands:

She still loves to swing.  That makes me happy because I get to go along and sit in the grass at the park

Back in CA

THings have been a little easier being at home.  I have more of my tricks at hand (swing, etc) in case Janey is fussy and we are back on a more regular schedule.  Janey has taken a liking to swinging.  SHe is still a little small, but as long as I keep my hand at her back she is fine.  She moves to swing and watch Hogan walk around in the grass.

Hogan;s birthday was May 15th.  Luckily the sitter was here for part of the day. So Ed and I took Hogan to the beach,
